He has become known as the man who could digest basically anything from bicycles to an entire Cessna 150 airplane.

As amazing as it may sound, between 1959 and 1997 this man ate an estimated nine tons of metal.

Michel Lotito, also know as "Monsieur Mangetout," which translated means "Mr. Eats All,"
was a French-born "entertainer," who passed away in June of 2007, just shortly after his 57th birthday.

Mr. Lotito's metal-eating habits were forced upon him. He suffered from Pica, which is a medical condition that causes cravings to eat such things as dirt, glass and, apparently, anything metal. Pica is a pattern of eating non-food materials, such as metal, clay, chalk, dirt or paper.

Some of these substances are poisonous. The specific causes of pica are unknown. Some researchers theorize that pica is caused by a mineral or other dietary deficiency that triggers the cravings.Other researchers suggest that pica is a response to stress. There is no conclusive evidence to explain the condition, but pica is a health risk and must be properly treated. If not, it can have fatal consequences. Mr. Lotito had a "very thick" lining in his stomach and intestines. This made it possible for sharp metal objects to pass through his system without doing any structural damage.

He broke objects into small pieces and consumed them with lot amount of water. On average he consumed about 1 kilogram of metal daily. He would also drink copious amounts of mineral oil to help guide the metal bits and pieces down through his intestines.

It took him two years to eat the airplane. Lotito also ate 15 shopping carts, seven television sets, six chandeliers, two beds, a coffin and a small section of the Eiffel Tower.

In 1981, he was brutally attacked and stabbed, resulting in life-threatening injuries. He quickly recovered though. Just three weeks later he ate an entire robot, bit by bit.

Mr. Lotito died at the age 57. One can only imagine how badly such metal digestion affected his health.
