The pint-sized Hollywood star, 51, is allegedly under attack from screenwriter Timothy Patrick McLanahan who claims the Top Gun star stole his idea for Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
McLanahan claims he came up with the concept for the 2011 box office smash in his own script for a film titled Head On in 1998.
He is now seeking damages from Cruise, Paramount Pictures and various production companies after filing a lawsuit in December.
In 1998, I had written a screenplay called Head On. After submitting it to the US Copyright Office, Head On received a copyright certificate protecting its material and author from unauthorized use,’ according to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.
He claims his script was initially sent to talent agency William Morris Agency who, it is alleged, forwarded on the document without his consent to Creative Artist Agency – who represent Cruise.
‘I immediately recognized that the scripts for this movie had been illegally written and produced from Head On‘s 1998 copyright,’ McLanahan states after Ghost Protocol was released years after his script was floated.
The fourth Mission Impossible film made more than £515million worldwide after it’s release, the documents add. Which won't be enoght to take care of the bill if found guilty.
