President Goodluck Jonathan, Thursday,
nominated Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Godwin Emefiele as Governor of Central Bank.
Chief Financial Controller (CFO) of First Bank of Nigeria, Adelabu Adebayo Adekola was appointed as deputy governor.

Emefiele has never been considered one of the favourites by analysts since profile of possible replacements for the just suspended CBN governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi hit the media.

He is expected to replace Sanusi when his tenure ends in June, pending confirmation by the National Assembly.

Sanusi was suspended today over alleged breach of enabling law and failure to follow due process, among others. He was replaced by deputy governor on economic policy, Dr Sarah Alade.
