The Sokoto State government under the leadership of governor Aliyu
Wamako had sponsored a mass weddings for 125 couples in the state.

According to the Commissioner for Social Welfare, Alhaji Zubairu Yari,
the mass wedding which gulped N30 million, was conducted at the Government
House in Sokoto recently.
The ceremony was presided over by Governor Aliyu Wamakko and the
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, who was represented by
Alhaji Rilwanu Bello, the Magajin Rafin Sokoto.
Wamakko said that the gesture was aimed at further reducing the
problems associated with the high number of unmarried youth in the state.
The governor urged the new couples to uphold the trust reposed in them
by the state government, and appealed to wealthy individuals to
complement the efforts of the state government in this direction.
