A schoolboy was diagnosed with a potentially fatal heart condition after he broke his wrist.

James Wishart, 11, , went to hospital with a broken wrist after an accident at his judo class but left with an appointment for open-heart surgery after horrified doctors realised he may have just months left to live.

His shocked parents Hayley, 40, and Steve, 44, were told that without medical intervention, their seemingly healthy son was only months from death.
James was diagnosed with subaortic stenosis - a fatal condition that causes tightness below the valve that allows blood out of the heart.

Ms Wishart said: ‘Even though it’s awful knowing your child has a serious condition we are so lucky that doctors found James’s heart condition as he could have collapsed and died if it had not been detected.’
